Summer Sundae is an annual festival held at DeMontford hall and its grounds in Leicester. We have been lucky enough to be involved in producing visuals for bands on the Bathysphere stage since 2005.
This involvement continued this year with Sean Clark doing live visuals for Bathysphere's The Buoys on the Friday night. The Buoys visual set was based on new video material produced by Sean Clark around the theme of movement and flow in the city. Nine short films were mixed live during the set in response to the music (one of the films was also shown in the Nanoplex). This material will be used again as part of Sean's Autopoiesis project.
A surprise opportunity for Sean on the Saturday was to do the visual set for the band Low. Sean used simple, low-key, visuals taken from his previous work, plus some new material from a forthcoming set of films about micro-organisms to try to match the music. Check for pictures of the show on Flickr.
Cuttlefish applied for and received funding from the Arts Council to organise the first official Summer Sundae Fringe festival. Pineapster activist Andy Black took on the challenge of getting the artists and venues together and it culminated with four official shows on the Thursday before the festival at The Firebug, The Charlotte, The Musician and The Cabaret Tent at DeMontford Hall. Initial feedback is that the events were a great success.
