Microworld Leicester: Experiments in Digital Art 2016

Join Interact Digital Arts and Genetic Moo at Wot SPACE in Highcross for a week of digital art experimentation and free workshops.

Award-winning artists Genetic Moo use video projectors, lights and sound to create multimedia installations called Microwords. They will be bringing their interactive artworks and digital creatures to Leicester for a unique one-week exhibition.

As well as the Microword, there will be free digital arts workshops running all week covering topics such as:

  • Computer Programming
  • 3D Printing
  • Raspberry Pi
  • BBC MicroBit
  • Arduino Micro Controllers
  • Robotics
  • Computer Drawing
  • Electronic Music
  • Virtual Reality

There will be drop-in and bookable sessions for both children and adults.

Microworld Leicester will be open from 11am until 5pm between the 20th and 27th August 2016. You can pop in anytime to explore the artworks and talk to the artists. Entry is free.

Between 12:30pm and 2:30pm and 3pm and 5pm there will be drop-in sessions and workshops for kids and adults. There will also be some evening talks and activities. With the drop-in sessions you can just turn up and participate in digital arts activities such as computer programming, 3D printing and robotics. There is plenty to do, so just come along.

With the workshops the numbers are limited, so you should book in advance to guarantee a place. Look at the schedule below and let us know what you would like to do by emailing workshops@interactlabs.uk or calling us on 07595 990817. Please only choose up to two bookable sessions per person so that there will be plenty to go around!

Looking to make good use of the £25 Raspberry Pi computer? Learn how to set up the machine, program with Scratch, make sounds with Sonic Pi and play Minecraft on it. You are welcome to bring your own Raspberry Pi or use the machines provided. 10 places. Book here for free.

Being Creative With The Arduino (Adults)

An Arduino is a type of small computer known as a micro-controller. You can use one to control switches, LEDs, motors and almost anything else you can think of. Materials will be provided but you may want to bring your own laptop. If you would like your own Arduino to keep and take away then a starter kit can be pre-ordered here for £20. 10 places.
