Rachel Sermanni

Here is a refreshing take on the acoustic female singer-songwriter. Scotland's Rachel Sermanni's voice is bold and it's all her own. This 19-year-old packs an almighty punch with her earthy folk melodies and dextrous fingerpicking. This is displayed on the incredibly understated Breathe Easy, beautifully arranged with subtle orchestral backing, from her debut EP Black Currants which reached number 1 in the Coalition Chart (made up of the leading Independent Record Shops) in February this year. There is a lot more to come though with strength of material like the excellent, empowered The Fog, her future is looking rosie. Rachel's razor-sharp wit and natural affinity with any audience have led to support slots with the likes of Elvis Costello, Ron Sexsmith and Michael Kiwanuka.
